Proofreading Software

AI for Connectomics

With the full wiring diagram of a fly that was recently released, the historic milestone shows the revolutionary progress that was achieved in EM acquisition and image analysis. Scaling towards the mouse (and the human after) requires novel technologies to achieve image understanding on petabyte-scale level. I work on automating with AI the proofreading part (manual verification of each neuron and its wiring) of which cost is estimated between $7-21 B over the next 10 years.

A proofreader does manual error correction on this type of software.

Achieving this kind of automation requires efficient visuo-spatial reasoning, working with infinite state spaces where valuing each decision for an agent is difficult. I work on developing a model and a data pipeline that could achieve this challenge.
